Joseph Pilates once said, “physical fitness can neither be achieved by wishful thinking nor outright purchase.” Meaning in order to actually achieve what we want to achieve, we have to actually work for it.
As simple as it sounds, there is no replacing hard work, and a study out of the University of California Santa Cruz, proves just that. The best way to improve your overall strength and endurance, is through integrated exercise programs. Meaning, the combination of resistance training with aerobic exercise. Similar to what we do in our Beyond Movement and Fit Body classes.
To receive these benefits in your own workouts make sure to incorporate a short bout of cardio on a treadmill, bike, jumping rope, or your movements from your dynamic warm-up, before each set of resistance exercises.
This elevates your heart rate (you can check this on your heart rate monitor) and keeps it raised for longer than if you were to only lift weights. This allows you to burn more calories, and build muscle in less time. Essentially, you will transform your boring weight routine into a fat-blasting, strength-building occasion. So increase the intensity of your next workout and start seeing even better results this year!
