Mental Health Survivor Expert’s Tip of the Month – October

This month just breatheā€¦

Our mental and physical conditions are connected more than we realize. Often, when people get stressed out their hearts race, palms sweat, and breath gets labored. This month, when you find yourself feeling stressed out and overwhelmed try counting your breath. Inhale for 10 seconds and exhale for 10 seconds 10 times total. This will slow your heart and re-focus your mind. Breathing from your diaphragm is also a helpful way to calm your spirit: to do this; send your breath away from your chest and into your belly. As you inhale think of pushing your ribs out and as you exhale think of pushing your belly button into your spine. While breathing will not solve all of your problems, taking a moment to just breathe will help to ground you mentally and emotionally.
