Movies can help you succeed!

I am a young entrepreneur. My youth comes before entrepreneurship. Yes, when in business you can be placed in situations where you have to “grow up” quickly; however, remember you can never gain back time. Be sure to take the time to enjoy your youth. There are many ways you can do this. For example, you can go to the mall with friends, you can go to your school’s basketball game, or you can even go to movies. But as an entrepreneur – never close your eyes!
Recently, I watched “The Pursuit of Happyness” with Will Smith, based on the life of the very successful Chris Gardner. While some may have just watched the movie to get a glimpse of his life, even fewer people will have their eyes open to the things they can learn and apply to their own lives while in their personal “pursuit of happiness or success”.
Below are just a few things I saw in the movie that could be very helpful to a person on their journey to success:
• Determination – Chris Gardner was determined to be a great example for his son and to provide a better life for his family.
• Opportunity Recognition – Chris recognized and seized the opportunity to ride in the cab with one of the executives from the investment firm. This was his opportunity to make a great impression and get the executive to know more about him.
• Messages of Defeat – When painting his apartment, did you notice Chris had written a message of self defeat on the wall? You will experience times like this, however, you have to continue to be determined and stay motivated!
• Your Cup: ½ Empty or ½ Full? – Many would have thought that Chris going from a Salesperson to an Intern was a step backwards, especially financially. Chris, however, had a vision of something much better, stayed positive, and eventually “filled the rest of the cup”!
If you haven’t seen “The Pursuit of Happyness,” I believe, it is a great inspirational and motivational story of an individual who succeeded against many odds; much can be learned in movies to help you be successful while you are, at the same time, celebrating your youth! Oh, and by the way, don’t forget your popcorn!
