Happy New Year! It’s going to be a great one. You may wonder how I already know this year is going to be great.

When you wake up every day, you can choose what kind of a day you’re doing to have. No matter what’s going on in my life, if someone asks me how I’m doing, I always say “Great!” My mom once said, “You can’t always have a great day.” I replied, “I can’t?!”

Sure, there are days when I encounter some challenges, but I can put a positive spin on anything. Never under estimate the power of a positive attitude. It’s your attitude, not your aptitude which will determine your success in life. If you have a positive attitude, see everything as an opportunity, and work hard, you will succeed in every area of your life. Focus on what you can do, what you will do.

It’s amazing what a positive attitude can do for you. You’ll be able to see the bright side of any situation and be able to inspire and motivate yourself and others. And you’ll have the ability to handle challenges that come along in life. Notice I said “challenges,” not “problems.” I see them as challenges or opportunities. Try not to use the word “problem,” because it’s such a negative word.

A positive attitude will give you more energy and you’re going to need all the energy you can get as you finish your college years and start your career. So, make it a great day. For that matter, make it a great year!
