New Year’s resolutions are tempting, but I actually think they usually turn out to be pretty hazardous to our relationship with our bodies. If you fail reaching your goal, you might generalize and decide “I’m a failure.” If you reach your goal, you may feel smug for a few weeks, but get desperate as your willpower drains away and real life sets in.
The important thing at the beginning of a new year, just like any other time, is to reconnect with your authentic hungers and move in ways that make you happy. Scrap those unreasonable fitness regimens and restrictive diets and sit with your own desires. What do you feel like eating? How does your body love to move? Now that’s a great resolution.
