Home for the Holidays
By Nancy Barry
Hopefully you’ll be traveling home to celebrate the holidays with your family and friends. While you’re home, in addition to opening all the wonderful gifts and enjoying some great home-cooked meals, there’s something else I’d like you to do. Let everyone know what you want to do when you graduate from college. If you’ve already graduated and haven’t found your dream job, let them know what you think you’d like to do.
There are so many people who love you and want you to be happy and successful in your career. They would be honored to help you land your dream job. As I speak across the country, many twentysomethings have said to me, “I’m not going to let anyone help me get my first job.” My response is always, “Why? They won’t be getting you your first job, they’ll just be opening the door for you.”
So, while you’re home for the holidays let Uncle Bob and Aunt Mary (and every other adult you see) know what your career goals are. You never know whom they know that you want to know. They might open a door that will be the ultimate gift this holiday season…your dream job.
