Career Planning Expert’s Tip of the Month – December

What I’d like to talk about is how students can get an inside track with their campus alumni office. As my dad would say, here’s the scoop: Alumni love to connect with students so the campus alumni office is always in need of student volunteers to help connect with alumni during fundraising efforts and campus visits. So, I highly recommend that students volunteer with their campus alumni office – whether it be just for a few hours during a fundraising drive or more regular for campus tours. By volunteering, you are not only helping your campus alumni office, you are connecting with alumni office officers in a meaningful way and also connecting with oftentimes important alumni. This is such a great way to get in front of important alumni. I remember my freshman year I helped out with Duke University’s annual fundraising campaign and not only got to know the dean of my college but also got to talk in-depth with at least ten alumni in less than an hour! Plus, I got free pizza and that didn’t hurt either!
