Organizers of the 13th annual Independent Publisher Book Awards, conducted to honor the year's best independently published books, have announced the competition results. Campus Calm University, by Maria Pascucci (Campus Calm University Press), won a gold medal in the Self-Help category out of 135 entrants.

The awards attracted 4,090 entries from throughout the U.S. and Canada, plus most English-speaking countries worldwide. Medal-winning books came from 44 U.S. states plus the District of Columbia, eight Canadian provinces, and six countries overseas. Launched in 1996 as the first unaffiliated awards program open exclusively to independent, university, and self-published titles, the IPPY Awards are presented to winners at a gala celebration during BookExpo America in New York.

"Having my book recognized in the Independent Publisher Book Awards will help my team of experts and I spread the Campus Calm mission and help more students lead healthy, balanced lives," said Maria Pascucci, founder and president of Campus Calm. "That is something worth winning an award for."

"We teach students that self-love positions them for success in school and in life," said Pascucci. "Instead of stressing to the point of sickness over every single grade, test, paper and résumé builder, we help students focus on the big picture, which is remaining grateful for the gift of time that college affords them to learn, create relationships and develop their unique strengths and passions."

"Today's readers are seeking diverse perspectives on hot-button issues," said awards director Jim Barnes. "This year's list represents a mix of established independents and bold new voices, and their messages echo the call for change and a straightforward approach to dealing with the world's social, political and economic problems."

A summa cum laude college graduate, Pascucci is now a leading authority on student stress. She gives voice to the secret practices, concerns and conversations of a generation of young men and women who believe that it is acceptable, even necessary, to sacrifice health and happiness in pursuit of perfection. Campus Calm has been featured in The Chronicle of Higher Education, The Huffington Post and media outlets around the world.
